Dear Parents & Students,

 

Happy New Year!

 

Yes, the school year is passing quickly. However, there is still time to purchase your PTSA membership and make a difference in the lives of students and teachers of Valencia High School.

 

I am pleased with the support that we have received to date. We have over 350 members consisting of parents, students and teachers. Our fundraising for the first few months has resulted in over $500 so far, and we have several more events planned.

 

The proceeds from memberships and contributions are used to fund Red and Yellow Ribbon Weeks, hospitality events and goodies for our teachers, and breakfast during Star Testing. However, the majority of the money goes to our scholarship fund for continuing education for Valencia’ students and teachers.

 

Last year we were able to increase our scholarship fund to provide $500 awards to five college bound Valencia High School students. This year we hope to exceed that goal and provide additional scholarships. In addition, we plan to provide scholarship funds to selected teachers who continue their education to enhance their teaching abilities for our students. All applicants for scholarship funds must be members of PTSA.

 

We meet on the second Monday of every month at 7pm in the school library. All interested parents are welcome and encouraged to attend and learn about the important happenings at our school. Principal, Jim Bell, usually attends and gives us an update on the school’s activities, issues, awards and future plans. We also have student representatives for each grade level who provide us with the students’ perspective on what is important to them.

 

All PTSA members receive a printed newsletter by mail. An electronic version is posted on the school website for everyone’s reading pleasure.

 

Thank you to all who have volunteered their time and talents to make Valencia’s PTSA effective and productive. We look forward to seeing more new faces as the year progresses.
