AP Literature: 2013-2014 Summer Assignment information

"The good ended happily, and the bad unhappily. That is what Fiction means."
 ~Oscar Wilde

Welcome to Language Arts 4 - AP English Literature and Composition. During the course of the year you will learn to closely analyze poetry, prose and write essays on those selections. Below are the list of novels/plays we anticipate reading during the 2013-2014 school year are as follows:
  • A Doll's House
  • Brave New World
  • How to Read Literature Like a Professor (summer reading)
  • Heart of Darkness
  • The Kite Runner
  • Mayor of Casterbridge
  • Macbeth
  • Frankenstein
  • Much Ado About Nothing
  • Pride & Prejudice
  • The Importance of Being Earnest
We encourage you to purchase your own copies of these to annotate.
Used book stores/online outlets often have many of these classic titles for almost nothing!

**For the summer, we ask that you define/review literary terms and review the classical / Biblical allusions power point (should be posted by 6/26) that you'll be expected to know WELL.  We will review the allusions/literary terms the first week of school and you will be tested on all terms the first Friday of school.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions at my school email address: [email protected].  Enjoy your summer!
