Environmental Geoscience

Environmental Geoscience is an exploration of our planet from inside out and our universe at large.

The broad topics we will cover include:
  • Geology which covers the makeup of our planet (e.g. the rock cycle), plate tectonics, and the evolution of earth across time scales (i.e. eons, eras, periods, epochs and ages).
  • Astronomy which covers the study of celestial objects (i.e. stars, galaxies, planets, moons, asteroids, comets and nebulae).
  • Energy where we will explore the many sources of energy on Earth and the transfer of energy across different systems.
  • Metereology which is the study of Earth's atmosphere and the factors that affect it.
  • Oceanography which will explore Earth's oceans and the various systems that occur in them (e.g. thermohaline circulation) that effect life on Earth.
  • Paleontology/Earth History where we will learn about the history of Earth and evolution of its inhabitants by investigating fossil records.
  • We will also learn about the various features of California's geology, geography, availability of resources and some of the hazards (e.g. the San Andreas fault).
