This is a listening exercise that CANNOT be made up after the quiz on 5/25. Filowitz will give you a hard copy of the video outline - it is due when the film is over. It will be returned to you to use for the quiz.

Your whole department may work together, but you'll need to divide yourself into subgroups of 2-3 people. Also, Big Filowitz recommends putting things in your own words for discussion purposes, because two of you may be in the Pilot circle at the same time and you do not want to have the exact same answer. You also do not know what questions you will be asked, and therefore need to prepare for all of them. Big Filowitz will discuss the format of the Socratic Seminar Today. You will have today and tomorrow in class to prepare, then on Friday, the Seminar will commence.

Reflect on your experience yesterday - how did you feel? There are questions on the Google doc below to help guide you, if you don't know what to write.

You will be working in Departments within the Party for the Simulation. Today, you will be placed in your department. You Department needs to select a Team Leader (who makes sure the team stays on track). Your Department will need to:

Choose a Department name (something that would make sense in the world of 1984), 
Write up a short description of what your department does to contribute to The Party - (turn that in here), 
Create a Department Flag with your Department Name, Logo, and Motto.
You MUST TURN IN A HARD-COPY OF YOUR Department Flag.

Have your parents read and fill out this form to give consent for you to participate in our 3-day-long simulation (only taking place during school hours on-campus from 5/11 to 5/13). You may pick your own groups - you may work alone, or with up to 3 other people (MAX group size = FOUR PEOPLE, unless we have an uneven number and Filowitz needs to adjust). But it's easier to write with a few people, than with a large group!
You will have all day in class on Tuesday and Wednesday to work on your stories.
Finish the story in two pages or less in a unique way - take creative license and have fun!
You will present your story to the class (time-pending) on Monday (3/28), so you need to come up with a 1-2 minute re-telling of your story in video format - upload your video to Google Classroom by 3/28 and we will watch them on Monday. If you want, you can each record a different section and of your story and edit them together, or each submit your own. The story you submit will be the same for all group members - just each turn it (even though it's the same work) on on Google Classroom for bookkeeping purposes.

This is due Friday @ 11:59 PM, but you will only have a little bit on in-class time to work on them (see my note in the Stream for more info). I'm posting them now, if you have time to get a headstart.

You can either fill this out online, or do it by hand and take a photo that you attach. 

On his journey, Odysseus happened to bring his iPod – he had it with him as he traveled to the Land of the Lotus Eaters, listened to tunes as he fought Polyphemus, and scrolled through songs as he encountered Circe and Calypso.

But his because Odysseus’ iPod is ancient, it only held 10 songs - The question: What 10 songs did Odysseus have on his iPod (name of song & artist who sings/performs it) AND WRITE AT LEAST TWO SENTENCES FOR EACH SONG EXPLAINING WHY HE HAD THAT PARTICULAR SONG.

I'm attaching a pdf of the Student Workbook, however, even with a pdf filler, it's a bit difficult to work on digitally because of the funky formatting - that's why I made you hard copies. If you opt to do your work digitally, you can work directly on your copy of the pdf OR (and this is the preferred method) take a photo of each page completed and submit as attachments to this assignment. Both methods are fully acceptable.


The Writing Prompts are on a separate doc - you can write them directly on their. The prompts are supposed to be fun/creative, so let yourself have fun with them (if possible).
