Graduation Requirements
PROGRESSIVE ACCUMULATION OF 230 CREDITS
All students must complete the required 230 credits in order to graduate from Valencia High School. Credit means recognition that the student has fulfilled the course requirement for a high school diploma. When successfully completed, each semester course earns five credits; each year course earns ten credits.
ELECTIVES
Students may choose any number of courses to complete this requirement. Students may continue to take academic coursework as well as non-academic coursework to complete this requirement.
9TH GRADE
9th Graders are required to enroll in Health/Career Planning, Language Arts I, Science, Physical Education or Athletics, with Mathematics and an elective recommended.
10TH GRADE
10th Graders are required to enroll in Language Arts II, Physical Education, World History, with Mathematics or Science recommended.
11TH GRADE
11th Graders are required to enroll in Language Arts III, U.S. History, with Mathematics and Science recommended.
12TH GRADE
12th Graders are required to enroll in Language Arts IV, U.S. Government /Economics.
NOTE: Courses that are re-taken do not receive double credit.
CSU & UC Requirements:
Courses designated as college prep must be passed with a grade of “C” or better in order to be considered towards admission requirements. For more information refer to the CSU and UC links (left).
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Students may choose to do more than the required 40 hours of community service, but must complete a minimum of 40 hours before the end of their senior year. That is only 10 hours of community service each year.
