What is the Cambridge AICE Program? (from the Cambridge AICE website)

The Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) Diploma is an international curriculum and examination system that emphasises the value of broad and balanced study. Alongside in-depth understanding of a variety of subjects, students also need to master a broader range of skills critical for success in university study and employment.
 
The Cambridge AICE Diploma was first awarded in 1997 and has since become popular with a range of schools in different parts of the world. It encompasses the ‘gold standard’ Cambridge International AS and A Level qualifications, and offers students the opportunity to tailor their studies to their individual interests, abilities and future plans within an international curriculum framework.
 
Over 600 universities in the US accept Cambridge International AS & A Levels, including all Ivy League and Ivy Plus universities. These universities include Brown, Harvard, MIT, Stanford and Yale. In the UK, all universities accept Cambridge qualifications. We work closely with universities to make sure Cambridge qualifications develop the skills and knowledge students need to succeed at university. 
 

Program Objectives and Curriculum

Cambridge International helps students become confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged. Ready to tackle the demands of tomorrow’s world, capable of shaping a better world for the future.
 
Cambridge International A Level is typically a two-year course, and Cambridge International AS Level is typically one year. Some subjects can be started as a Cambridge International AS Level and extended to a Cambridge International A Level. A Cambridge International AS Level is awarded one credit, and a Cambridge International A Level is awarded two credits. 
 
The Cambridge AICE Diploma is a group certificate which requires learners to study a compulsory core subject, Cambridge AS Level Global Perspectives & Research, with Cambridge AS & A Level subjects drawn from three curriculum areas: mathematics and science (Group 1), languages (Group 2), and arts and humanities (Group 3). There is the option to study interdisciplinary subjects (Group 4).To achieve the Cambridge AICE Diploma, learners must achieve a minimum of seven credits (including Cambridge International AS Level Global Perspectives & Research) from subject groups 1, 2, and 3 (and optionally Group 4) to be awarded the Diploma. Learners must achieve at least one credit from each of Groups 1, 2 and 3.The remaining credits can come from any of the groups.

How may a student enter the Cambridge AICE Program at Valencia High School?

Cambridge AICE Entrance Criteria:

  • 3.0 overall GPA and no grades lower than a B-
  • Grade of B or better in Algebra 1 or higher strongly recommended
  • Grade of B or better in GATE or Honors Language Arts OR a grade of A in regular Language Arts
