Description
Welcome to the 2nd year of Language Arts IB. Now that school has started, we want to work on the important matters for this class. [Click on Read More for IB#s]
  • Get your college essays done.  I'm more than happy to read, edit, and offer suggestions on improving your essays, but I need time to do them.
  • Get your letters of recommendation in order.  Figure out who you're going to ask, and give them some time to write.
Finally, many of you have asked what we'll be reading next year; here's the list (see attachment for the schedule). I encourage you to get your own copies of these books -- you'll need to learn how to mark in them for college. If you already have a copy but it's not the same edition, DON'T WORRY --you'll just have different page numbers . . .

Here's a link to Amazon to see and order the books (copy and paste this to your browser)

Here's some help for writing those pesky "Personal Statement" essays

Assignment

Here is the information you'll need to do the Allusions part of the summer assignment. You only need to print the one-page document "A Profusion of Allusions" so that you have the list of everything you need to know about for the exam the first Friday of Sept. As I said before, the PowerPoints (.ppt) cover everything. Some have the information on the slide, others have it as notes at the bottom (as long as you're NOT viewing it as "show"). You can decide the best way to know the info. Some students prefer printing out the ppt in outline, others prefer to make notecards. We won't be checking your notes - you make notes because you need them.
