AP Studio Art 2D (Digital Photography) is a course designed to further advance and train students in digital photography. Students will refine their photographic skills in relation to photographic critique, image composition, elements of exposure and the many different fields of photography. Specific emphasis is placed on the art of photography though In depth commitment to digital photography. This course is a yearlong, college level class. AP photography is not based on a book and test format instead, students will create a portfolio for submission to the College Board in May. This portfolio process is designed to encourage students to use the skills taught as a systematic investigation of formal and conceptual issues in photography and art. The portfolio process emphasizes making art as a continuous process that involves the development of technical skills and use of the visual elements and principles of design. Throughout the year, students will develop three-sections of the final portfolio (Breadth, Concentration, and Quality). During each section we will discuss, critique and analyze each work in relation to design elements and fundamentals of exposure and composition. In Addition, the Breadth and Concentration portions of the students portfolio will demonstrate the students ability to develop a cohesive body of work that investigates a strong underlying visual idea picked by the individual student. This cohesive body of work will be developed and investigated throughout the class.
