This week you will recreate one of the logos that you drew and found in last weeks assignment. You can also choose to find a new object or logo or design to recreate.
Use whatever is in and around your house.

Process:

Take a photo of a product around the house or one that you have found and drawn already.

Then recreate the logo in a way that you feel best represents the logo.

Your goal is to improve the logo in terms of its simplicity or it's design and product message.

Try and develop the project with the most detail as possible.

Notes and explanation can be on same paper as logo and sketches.

Any kind of paper.

Markers (optional)
Concept on how and why you chose to redesign the logo.

Graphic Design Scavenger Hunt (AP Studio Art Optional)

This weeks lesson you will be gathering and documenting information based on observations related to Graphic Design and The Principles of Art. (Patterns, Fonts, Contrast etc.)

Your goal for the assignment is to locate 10 items around your house, then make drawings of these physical things that relate to Graphic Design.

You will then compile and label those drawings on 8.5 x 11 Inch paper (3-5 to a page), show how they represent the various design elements, and turn those papers in to the google classroom.

The drawings can be very graphic/simple representations of what you find. They do not have to be detailed shaded drawings. However, you can add as much detail as you wish.

I attached some examples of things to draw. Make sure to label where the design, pattern and logo is on them. These are just some drawings off of the internet.

Hi Everyone

The assignment this week is to create a hand lettered sign.

All you will need is pencil, paper, ruler(optional) and a sharpie or black pen marker of some kind.
This a great way to focus on typography, font making, lettering, and improve your drawing skills. Make your lettering any way you choose. I am uploading some examples and links to youtube for videos on lettering and sign making. The final project you can take a pic of or scan and turn into the classroom.

It does not have to be symmetrical or even but balance is a good idea. Just have fun with it. Experiment with all kinds of letters. Look up fonts for inspiration too. Tracing and customizing fonts totally fine as well.

Try to come up with a good positive sign. It can be good therapy in these times!


NOTE: For those of you that have access to the adobe programs, you can finish the work up in Illustrator or Photohshop. (Not Required).

Concept Sketch Process Piece. NO COMPUTER NEEDED

Since only some of you have access to the adobe programs, I thought it would be a good opportunity to brush up on your concept and drawing skills.

In this project you will sketch up on blank, lined or graph paper a full concept of a design form start to finish. It can be a concept for either a new logo design, digital painting or any graphic design product you want to make in the future. You can use whatever supplies you have at home. You can use a regular graphite pencil, colored pencils, markers, sharpies, ball point pen or combo of all. Or just one of those is fine.

NOTE: Some of you have ipads and other devices to do art on and that can be used as well.

Try and get as detailed as possible with your sketches. Including notes next to sketches, diagrams of functionality of object and any other process you see necessary to include.

REMEMBER THIS NOT ABOUT HOW WELL YOU DRAW. It is more about how you develop your concept form start to finish. So simple drawings are totally fine. However, those of you who can shade and draw very well technically are encouraged to do so.

Your final project should be at least three pages of drawings, notes and processes. 1 for ideas, 1 for sketches and 1 for finished idea sketches.

Examples of a finished projects will be attached. But put your own spin on it as always.

For the final document to be turned in to the google classroom, It will need to be good quality pictures of your process taken with a phone or something that shows the process.

This will work for a portfolio piece for AP as well.

THIS PROJECT IS FOR EVERYONE TO COMPLETE.

NOTE: Also make to sure to write a short document stating what you are sketching for and why. Just a few sentences is all you will need.

Polygon Portraits



The assignment is to create a polygon or low poly portrait. You can use yourself, celebrity or someone you know as the subject matter. You can even chose to use an animal as the subject matter. There will be demonstrations in class of the process. You are encouraged to research online the process as well. You will use Adobe Illustrator to complete the process.

Digital Painting part 2

The goal for this digital painting is to focus more on the use of flat shapes or "digital carving" the shapes out for the creation of the art.

You can choose to make a landscape, portrait, poster style (video) etc for your final piece. Or anything you may want to reference.

The video attached is only a reference of how to use more shape driven elements to create art. You do not have to create this exact piece, but you may try if you like.

Create a digital painting using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Review previous lessons related to using the brushes. Also make sure to look for simple tutorials on digital painting. Links below will help explain the process. There will also be demonstrations in class.

Create an original movie poster, game design cover, or TV series poster with you or someone you know as the main character(s).

You will be using Adobe Photoshop mainly. Illustrator may be used as well.

Research movie posters on google images and other sites to gain a perspective of the over all feel of what you want the poster to took like and represent. You can redo an existing movie poster design or create a new movie concept and title.

Make sure you take several pictures of yourself and any other characters you want in the poster design. It may be a good idea to sketch the concept out first.

Guidelines: 11 x 14 Inches Portrait All original photos of yourself and others Ideas, Research, Background and scene can be taken from off line (you will have one day to search online in class).

Product / Logo Design / Branding

Introduction to product design and mock up of products and branding.

You are going to be creating pages of several mocks ups regarding product development and design. You will be using your newly created logo to brand various surfaces.

Start be selecting the attached files to download to become familiar with the process, then you will be moving into finding mock ups online to use. Not all files you will find online will open and work. Also, there are several ways to place your files on products that will be gone over in class.

You will be using Adobe Photoshop to open most of the files you will be downloading.

Finally, you will be creating a multi page document that will serve as a portfolio of the various mock ups that you choose to use. All of the info in creating these pages will be gone over in class.

Personal Logo Design

To create and develop a logo that represents you. You will need to sketch several ideas (100) on blank computer paper and then finalize those ideas, then use Adobe Illustrator to complete the process of this assignment.

We will go through the drawing process together and the tools you will need to complete this assignment (Pen tool, Line Segment, Type Tool, Shape tool, Divide tool etc.) Make sure to refer to your hand drawing sketches and develop many versions of the logo before settling on the final version.

Final Logo Design Layout: Make sure the logo is a black logo on white background in the pyramid format that will be shown in class. Top logo is 2 inches in longest distance, second row 1 inch, and third row .5 inches.

Graphic Design

Vector graphics and Self Portraiture. In this lesson, yo will learn some new tools (Pen, Shape, Color) in Adobe Illustrator and create a vector based Self Portrait, or a portrait of someone you know. No images from the internet can be used.

Adobe Illustrator and Pen Tool Introduction   Attached is a basic tutorial that you can watch that will get you familiar with the pen tool.   Once you are done with the tutorial and demo in class, you will need to practice the pen tool by creating a file that has your first and last name in cursive as well as the Alphabet in cursive both upper and lower case lettering. Example is attached of the finished work to be turned in.

Create an image using the techniques we have been going over in class the last few days. Should include the following elements: Atmosphere of some kind 3 - 4 Spheres Textures Gradient / Stars / Color

Masking

We will be working with photos and learning how to use the various masking tools in photoshop. Make sure to bring in images you will want to work with. This will be used in photography and advertising frequently. Your assignment is to create an image using two or more images that are from different photos. One will be used as the background and the other will be cut out from an another picture and pasted and masked to that original photo to merge the images so that they appear as if they were originally made that way. Demo and examples are given in class.

Working with images and text.   Using multiple images, text and clipping masks in Photoshop, you will create a a piece of art that is about you. Use as many images as you want. Experiment with various techniques demonstrated in class. This will also be an introduction into typography and composition and layout. Examples of finished projects will be shown.
