Due:
For the final, you will be choosing any two previous assignments that you want to redo.
These can be distance learning or from the beginning of the year. Whatever you have access to.
You can also work on a typography by hand, more logo design, Product design sketches or anything.
Just attach the projects to the classroom when you complete. Two JPEGS or whatever you want. PDF works too.
You do not have to wait until the deadline. You can start immediately. Thank you.

Every year the students in the graphic design classes are the ones who design the planners that are used the following school year. Once the planner project is complete, the VHS administration chooses the planner cover that will be used.
The student planner theme is “Belong, Believe, Become”. The design should visually incorporate that theme and the school mascot in some form.
The file size is 8.75 X 11.25 Portrait - 300 Resolution.
****NOTE: You can do this assignment by hand this year! I know some of you may not have adobe access. So feel free to hand draw the planner idea. If the administration likes the idea we can assist you in completing a digital version.****
Photoshop or Illustrator can be used. Use a bleed zone of 1/8 Inch for cut off. (Template Attached).
I have attached logos for use as well.
Also there will be a safe zone for all text in the same template.
Background imagery, background patterns etc. can go to edge and beyond.
Planner cover must visually include:
2020-2021
Valencia High School or VHS
School mascot logo (attached as PDF)
Words: "pride - tradition - excellence" somewhere on the cover design.
Previous year planner covers will be attached for reference.

This week you will recreate one of the logos that you drew and found in last weeks assignment. You can also choose to find a new object or logo or design to recreate.
Use whatever is in and around your house.
Process:
Take a photo of a product around the house or one that you have found and drawn already.
Then recreate the logo in a way that you feel best represents the logo.
Your goal is to improve the logo in terms of its simplicity or it's design and product message.
Try and develop the project with the most detail as possible.
Notes and explanation can be on same paper as logo and sketches.
Materials:
Any kind of paper.
Pencil
Pen
Markers (optional)
Concept on how and why you chose to redesign the logo.
I am attaching some inks to the recreation and design of well known logos.

Graphic Design Scavenger Hunt (AP Studio Art Optional)
This weeks lesson you will be gathering and documenting information based on observations related to Graphic Design and The Principles of Art. (Patterns, Fonts, Contrast etc.)
Your goal for the assignment is to locate 10 items around your house, then make drawings of these physical things that relate to Graphic Design.
You will then compile and label those drawings on 8.5 x 11 Inch paper (3-5 to a page), show how they represent the various design elements, and turn those papers in to the google classroom.
The drawings can be very graphic/simple representations of what you find. They do not have to be detailed shaded drawings. However, you can add as much detail as you wish.
I attached some examples of things to draw. Make sure to label where the design, pattern and logo is on them. These are just some drawings off of the internet.
Materials:
Pencil
Paper
Pen
Color (optional)
Example of things to find (can be other things as well): Min of 10
Things that have the following on them:
Typography (spray bottle with logo)
Logo (Package with logo)
Contrast (light/dark on product or object)
Pattern (maybe furniture)
Circular design
Triangular design
Design that is older than you
A picture with words
Broken lines
Something embossed
Photomontage
Technical illustration
Gradation of colors or values
Serif Typeface
Sans-Serif Typeface

Hi Everyone
The assignment this week is to create a hand lettered sign.
All you will need is pencil, paper, ruler(optional) and a sharpie or black pen marker of some kind.
This a great way to focus on typography, font making, lettering, and improve your drawing skills. Make your lettering any way you choose. I am uploading some examples and links to youtube for videos on lettering and sign making. The final project you can take a pic of or scan and turn into the classroom.
It does not have to be symmetrical or even but balance is a good idea. Just have fun with it. Experiment with all kinds of letters. Look up fonts for inspiration too. Tracing and customizing fonts totally fine as well.
Try to come up with a good positive sign. It can be good therapy in these times!
NOTE: For those of you that have access to the adobe programs, you can finish the work up in Illustrator or Photohshop. (Not Required).
Supplies:
8.5 X 11 Inch paper is fine. If you have thicker or larger paper that is okay too.
Pencil
Pen(Marker)
Ruler(Optional)
Adobe(Optional)

Due:
Portfolio Piece. Concept Sketch Process Piece. NO COMPUTER NEEDED
Since only some of you have access to the adobe programs, I thought it would be a good opportunity to brush up on your concept and drawing skills.
In this project you will sketch up on blank, lined or graph paper a full concept of a design form start to finish. It can be a concept for either a new logo design, digital painting or any graphic design product you want to make in the future. You can use whatever supplies you have at home. You can use a regular graphite pencil, colored pencils, markers, sharpies, ball point pen or combo of all. Or just one of those is fine.
NOTE: Some of you have ipads and other devices to do art on and that can be used as well.
Try and get as detailed as possible with your sketches. Including notes next to sketches, diagrams of functionality of object and any other process you see necessary to include.
REMEMBER THIS NOT ABOUT HOW WELL YOU DRAW. It is more about how you develop your concept form start to finish. So simple drawings are totally fine. However, those of you who can shade and draw very well technically are encouraged to do so.
Your final project should be at least three pages of drawings, notes and processes. 1 for ideas, 1 for sketches and 1 for finished idea sketches.
Examples of a finished projects will be attached. But put your own spin on it as always.
For the final document to be turned in to the google classroom, It will need to be good quality pictures of your process taken with a phone or something that shows the process.
This will work for a portfolio piece for AP as well.
THIS PROJECT IS FOR EVERYONE TO COMPLETE.
NOTE: Also make to sure to write a short document stating what you are sketching for and why. Just a few sentences is all you will need.
