VHS Announces 4 President's Scholars for 2013

Mr. James Bell, Valencia principal, announced today that four seniors:
Omar Chavez, Saumya Jani, Bao Binh Nguyen, Krystal Nguyen have been named
as California State University Presidential Scholars from the Class of the
2013. This is the largest group of CSUF Presidential Scholars in VHS history.

Students are selected for this prestigious scholarship by a very competitive
application and interview process. Top candidates are evaluated for their
extracurricular involvement, academic rigor and communication skills by a
diverse, 20-member CSUF committee. Nominees must demonstrate evidence of
significant contributions to school and community service activities during high
school.  In total, only eighteen students state-wide were nominated this year as
CSUF President’s Scholars.

The CSUF President’s Scholars Program provides a full-tuition scholarship
to each nominee including a generous annual stipend for books and supplies,
a laptop computer, campus parking, admission to the University Honors
Program, study abroad opportunities through CSUF International Programs and
special recognition at the Honors Convocation and University Commencement
ceremonies.

This prestigious university scholarship program provides a foundation for
high-achieving students to develop and realize their potential for success – as
scholars, leaders and citizens. President’s Scholars achieve their academic goals
and develop the confidence and skills to become effective leaders, cohesive
team members and inspiring role models.

The program instills a sense of citizenship and commitment, inspiring President’s Scholars to reach out through service and mentorship. Beyond graduation, President’s Scholars become leaders
and role models in their professions and communities.

We are very proud of Omar, Saumya, Bao Binh, Krystal and their achievements
here at Valencia, they truly exemplify the qualities of our school motto; “Pride,
Tradition, and Excellence.”  We are also proud of our teachers and staff and the
role they have played in the development of these scholars and the outstanding
academic program here at Valencia High School.
