School District Launches New Parent University

What is Parent University?

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District values the active role parents take in their child’s education. In order to support this relationship, the District has implemented a parent education program entitled “Parent University.”

We will offer free workshops on various educational topics throughout the school year so parents can become better equipped to support their child’s learning. Research indicates that when schools work together with families to support learning, students perform better in school and throughout life.

What is the Goal of Parent University?

Our mission is to mobilize parent power and encourage greater family involvement in developing a lasting learning partnership in which parents support their children in achieving academic and personal success.

How Were the Topics Determined?

Two years ago, we surveyed our parents in an effort to determine the topics of most interest. The results showed four main areas of interest: Navigating the College System, Student Academics, Parent Support and Student Safety.

When are Classes Offered?

Classes are offered during evening hours on various days of the week in both Spanish and English. Childcare will also be provided as needed. We hope our community will find the sessions beneficial as we work together to ensure our students will have the advantage of an outstanding education. In addition to attending classes, we have listed links to several websites and recommended readings that will provide parents with additional resources. The links and readings are grouped by specific topics.
