Grades

Students are responsible for the concepts taught in lectures, lab experiments, and information from the textbook.

Grades will be based on:

- classwork, homework, and labs (30%)

- chapter tests and quizzes (45%)

- a cumulative final exam (25%)

Extra credit of 1-2% of total points can be earned each semester. Class participation points will be awarded and will count toward extra credit and citizenship grade.

Grading Scale:

100% - 90% = A    89% - 80% = B    79% - 70% = C   69% - 60% = D

Additional Grading Information:

  • Grades are not automatically rounded up. If grade is within ½ point of the next grade, it may be rounded up based on student participation and/or if all previous homework has been turned in.
  • All work must be your own. Plagiarism is not acceptable and won’t help you learn the material.
  • Late work will be accepted one day late only for 50% credit.
  • Cheating will be handled according to school policy.
  • Each student is responsible for making arrangements with me regarding missed work.
  • Quizzes and tests must be made up within one week and you must schedule lab make ups as soon as you return.
  • Students who are absent will receive one day to make up the work for every one day missed.

Academic Dishonesty: VHS maintains a zero tolerance policy toward cheating. If caught cheating, you will receive a zero on that assignment, a referral will be issued and your parents will be called.

Attendance

Students are responsible for being in their seat and ready to learn when the bell ringsBeing late to class will not be tolerated

It is important that students be in class every day.  Work can be made up, but class discussions cannot.

To prevent from falling behind in class, it is recommended that students obtain any work missed from a friend or neighbor.  In some instances I may be able to email the missing work upon request.

Notify me in advance if you know that you will be absent on a particular day. I will give you any work that needs to be completed.
