welcome to the 2017-2018 school year I'm Olivia young and I'm proud to serve as a principal of Valencia High School a California gold ribbon p21 Exemplar and Avid National demonstration School she has a rich history with our doors first opening to students in 1933 we are Guided by our motto of Pride tradition and excellence and apply it to all that we do with a talented and dedicated staff for Second To None we provide opportunities students to excel in academics Athletics Arts activities and academic competition each of these programs perform at the highest levels and have made Valencia a destination School for students from over 175 public and private middle schools in Orange County California and Beyond students come here for The Unique opportunities provided including 30 AP courses and 25 IB courses for a total of 55 college-level courses available with Pass rates consistently near a combined 90% students recognize the value of what Valencia has to offer in the pursuit of acceptance to Elite universities in the nation students also come to access our technology and wide range of stem classes about Annabelle Tech program to prepare them for success in the 21st century we are proud to be recognized as an avid National demonstration school for Exemplar instructional strategies and school-wide college readiness system Athletics Performing Arts clubs and academic competition teams including Academic Decathlon Science Olympiad chemistry Olympiad first robotics and mock trial are a source of Pride and provide students with opportunities for involvement so be sure to get involved while you're here Valencia with high expectations in a nurturing environment we are committed to your Student Success Valencia is a second home to our staff and students and we look forward to you being a part of our tiger family hi my name is Ryan right and I'm the visual arts department chair Valencia High School has a visual arts program that encompasses many media materials and levels at Valencia we value the Visual and Performing Arts they are a vehicle for students to express creative mediums and a Hands-On supportive and nurturing environment students in visual arts classes will learn about art history cultures art Theory and most importantly have the experience of creating art of their own Appalachian High School variety of courses in the visual arts art fundamentals 3D art photography graphic design and Ceramics are all one year Foundation classes second in 30 or courses in the visual arts department include Advanced Training painting advanced search Advanced photography and advanced graphic design we also offer AP Studio Art with 2D or 3D concentration and a pib our history the visual arts courses engage students of all types and given the opportunity to explore Express and create the visual arts department welcome students of all backgrounds and levels of creativity and we hope to see you in our class hi I'm Tanya bored and I in the mathematics department chair student center Valencia at many different levels are freshmen honors level courses are geometry honors and Algebra 2 trig Connor we continue with precalculus honors as sophomores cheer students have the opportunity to be a pain honors class by earning an A in the prerequisite class are geometry Algebra 2 trig and pre-calculus horses both regular and honors are designed to prepare the students for the variety of upper-level courses we offer we offer both AP Calculus and AP Statistics are calculus course is a full year AV course and students that complete this program as Juniors have the opportunity to take AP Calculus BC as senior since our AP Statistics course is offered completing Algebra 2 or hire some students choose to take AP Statistics as sophomores we currently offer two levels of IB classes standard level and higher level junior level students can enter into either of the two IV the standard level course is a year-long math course after which students can take the AP Calculus AP course the higher-level IV course is a 2-year Math course the first year is within trig math analysis honors and II where is taught in conjunction with Calculus BC our courses are all designed for fluid movement through the levels as well as across the upper-level courses students can choose which path best fits their needs whether honors AP IV combination of the mall good evening my name is Fred Jenkins and I am the social science department chair I'm here tonight to tell you about the courses offered in the social science department we have numerous a pib and core offerings and fact social science department offers the most AP and IB courses avalancha currently we teach 8 AP social science courses and five Ivy social science courses IPO offerings include AP Human Geography just typically taken by pre IB freshman but can be taken as an elective by any student AP European History is taken by sophomores AP u.s. History is offered to Juniors and seniors can take AP microeconomics AP macro economics AP US Government & AP comparative government in addition Juniors or seniors may take AP psychology as an elective private offerings include IB economics SL NHL IB history HL IB psychology SL and theory of knowledge also known as to KSL standard level courses can be taken either the junior or senior year HL or high-level courses are taking over both years of the program finally in addition to the core social science courses of world history u.s. history economic government we offered several social science College Prep physical in psychology and sociology took can also be taken as elected by Juniors and seniors thanks for listening and we look forward to having your students attend Fletcher High School good evening my name is David hitori and I in the world languages department chair here in Valencia we offer Chinese French Japanese Spanish and Spanish for native speakers in all I know you just talk we offer level 1 level 480 and we offer honors classes in levels two and three and a two speakers three are golden World languages is fluency expression and the integration of your student into a global Society thank you hi my name is Brady bilhartz and I am the science department chair Valencia High School is proud to offer one of the most extensive list of science courses offered in Orange County where also fortunate to have her feet or School Kramer Middle School in such close proximity as a give students the opportunity to take honors biology as an 8th grader allows for 4 more years in high school to take other science classes we offer a wide range of advanced courses including biology chemistry physics and environmental science RIT course offerings include standard Level Sports exercise and health science higher level biology higher level chemistry and we are looking into expanding it course offerings students who take Bridge biology as an 8th grader can take honors chemistry their freshman year AP Physics or sophomore year and Ivy and or AP courses during their Junior and senior years soon as it's not in the bridge can take honors biology their freshman year honors chemistry their sophomore year and IBN or AP courses during their Junior and senior years there are also numerous opportunities for students to explore the Sciences outside of the typical coursework season Science Olympiad International chemistry Olympiad International biology Olympiad as well as several science related clubs students out of valentia can expect a rigorous and Comprehensive Science Program which will prepare them for future see thank you and we hope to see you at valentia hello my name is Grace dance and I'm the department chair of the Performing Art the state of California and Valencia High School both agree that Visual and Performing Arts play an important role in the development of a well-rounded and successful student students in the Performing Arts learning essential 21st century skills such as problem-solving collaboration creativity and Innovation the visual art and Performing Arts is the F category of the 3-g UC and CSU college entry requirements students must take a one-year course from the F requirement Valencia High School offers a host of courses in the Performing Arts including dance drama instrumental band instrumental orchestra and vocal music looking forward to having you as part of the Performing Arts family here at Valencia High School hello my name is Julie Walker and I am the language arts department chair for years of English language arts are required in the district and at Valencia we offer three tracks to meet the needs of our students first we have a college prep track for grades 9 through 12 seniors also have an option of taking the expository reading and writing course to further prepare them for college-level writing our second track is the honors AP track for 9th and 10th graders 11th grade go on to AP English Language that is 12th grade students they complete their track in AP English Literature finally our third track is for those interested in pursuing an IB diploma all pre IB candidate started honors as for IB diploma candidates in their 11th grade year they go on to Ivy English year 1 and complete the requirement of seniors and I've eaten here to thank you and we look forward to seeing you here at lunch High School
